Different types of concrete mixer machines

A concrete mixer, as the name suggests, is a machine that mixes cement, aggregates (cement or gravel), and water to make concrete. Concrete mixers are mostly used on construction sites to give workers enough time to use them before the concrete hardens or becomes lumpy. The use of these machines saves a lot of time and labor thus increasing the production and reducing the cost. These mixers are replacing the traditional method of mixing cement by hand which is a time-consuming and less production process.

 Different types of concrete mixer

Concrete mixers can be divided into two types. This:

  • batch mixer
  • continuous mixer

Let us go through these concrete mixers and maintain concrete mixers services one by one.

1)batch mixer- Batch mixers are mostly used in small and medium-sized construction sites. Parts of this type of concrete mixer are a drum or a pan with rotating blades that prepare the concrete mix. Batch mixers prepare the concrete mix by means of one batch at a time, hence the name. Each batch can be separately adjusted for the required mix and thus the mixing process can be fine-tuned. These mixers can also perform multiple mixing processes where a portion of ingredients can be mixed before other ingredients are added. There are 2 types of batch mixer, drum, and pan. These are discussed in detail below.

  • Drum Type Concrete Mixer- These mixers have a cone-shaped drum with a cut-off top. This shape is technically called a double conical frustum shape. Depending on the type these drums may consist of single or multiple sets of swing blades attached to the pedals. These blades curve in different directions. This swing blade paddle is used for mixing and preparing concrete and eventually discharging it for construction use. Based on different uses and applications, these mixers can be further classified into 3 different types.

*      tilting drum mixer

This type of concrete mixer machine discharges the concrete by tilting the drum downwards. Tilt Drum Mixer is used for mixing plastic and semi-dry concrete. These mixers can also produce less workable concrete with larger-sized aggregates. The efficiency of these mixtures depends on the following factors; Drum size, drum size, blade size, and the blade angle. Tilt drum mixers are commonly used in large construction sites where intensive construction work is required. for example. Road and bridge construction and water and power generation construction projects.

*      Non-Tilting Drum Mixer

As the name suggests, the drum of this type of concrete mixer does not tilt but rotates on its horizontal axis. These mixers have openings at both ends. The material is fed from one end and the concrete mix produced is collected from the other end. The discharged mixture is collected in an inclined position by applying a chute to the opening of the drum. Blades in these machines are also used during the extraction of the mixture. Since large-sized aggregates are not easily discharged and concrete discharge is slow, therefore, this type of mixer is commonly used in small construction projects.

*      reversing drum mixer-

These concrete mixers are similar in size to non-tilting type mixers. With the above type, these mixers have openings at both ends. The material for concrete mixing is fed from one end and the mixture produced is collected from the other end and the drum rotates on its horizontal axis. The difference is that here the rotation is reversed to perform different actions. The drum rotates in one direction for mixing and in the opposite direction for discharging the mixture. Two separate sets of blades are used for mixing and discharging. These mixers are mostly used for dry concrete mix. you can also take the advantage of reversing the drum mixer.

  • Pan Type Concrete Mixers-

Pan type mixer can also be divided into 2 types. These types are classified based on the speed of the different parts of the concrete mixer. In the first type, the circular pan is stationary and only the star-shaped blades rotate in the pan on the vertical axis. In the second type, the pan rotates on its own while the blades are in a stationary position. Both these mixers are efficient and in both the concrete mix is discharged and collected through a central hole in the pan itself. Pan-type mixers are considered more efficient than other concrete batch mixer plants.

2)continuous concrete mixer

This type of concrete mixer machine continuously loads, mixes, and discharges the mixture until the end of work or break. Here the material is loaded continuously through a screw feeder. It is an automated process that does not require manual refilling or deletion. This type of mixing is faster and requires less labor to operate. These mixers are used in large projects where speed and efficiency matter such as large real estate projects and construction of dams etc.

Conclusion- So, this was a brief description of the different types of concrete mixers used in the construction industry. Different types of mixers are selected for use in projects depending on the type of aggregate, the quality of concrete required and the project cost. you can also consult world's best concrete suppliers in India to get instant help.
