How does the concrete batching plant work

concrete batching plant used in industry, also known as a batch plant or batching plant, is equipment where several ingredients such as cement, sand, water, and other additives are mixed to form concrete. Batching is the process of weighing and introducing material into a mixer to develop a batch of concrete. Concrete has been recognized as one of the most durable materials used in bridges, homes, highways, sidewalks, and other construction works. Concrete Batching Plant together with its parts and accessories produces high-quality concrete. To understand the working of a compact concrete batching plant, it is important to know the various components of the plant.

The working process of the concrete batching plant

Usually, stationary type concrete batching plant is larger in size. Its operation is more or less similar to the mobile concrete batching plant. The stationary version is preferred by customers who want to have concrete products in one place and the portable version is preferred by those who want to move sites more frequently.

The working principle of the Concrete Batching Plant is dependent on five primary functions as given below:

  • Aggregate Feeding – Aggregates and sand have to be fed into separate feeder bins.
  • Powder Feeding – Here powder refers to cement, fly ash, and additives. These are important components for the bonding of the material.
  • Water - The water will help the cement bind evenly with the aggregate. A specific amount of water is required for any finished mixture.
  • Storage and conveyance - Storage and conveyance here refer to the storage of cement, fly ash, etc. They are to be placed in bulk and small quantities are to be transferred to the weighing hopper by screw conveyor.
  • Control System - Control system is very important for any advanced machine. This makes the operation fast and accurate.

The concrete batching plant process flow will begin by feeding the aggregates into individual bins. Aggregates have to be put in different bins according to size. These aggregates shall be individually weighed as per the design prescribed in the control room. After weighing, they will be transferred to the mixing unit. Above the mixing unit are wet hoppers for cement, additives, and water.

The job of the weighing hopper is to weigh and then transfer the material to the following mixing unit. The cement is transferred to the weighing hopper through a screw conveyor. Water is poured into the weigh hopper. After mixing for a specific time set in the mixing unit, the mixer will drop the material into a transit mixer or concrete pump.

What is the purpose of a concrete batching plant?

The main purpose of using an inline concrete batching plant is to produce homogeneous and uniform concrete. The plant should continuously produce concrete in equal proportion in batches one after the other. The most important function performed by this plant is that it coats the aggregate with cement.
